Russia Stainless Steel Imports in January

According to an expert appraisal by Spetsstal Assocation, stainless steel imports to Russia in January 2011, on December 2010, fell 33.1% to 12932 tons.

The decline is bound with a long period of holidays in the country, therefore it would be more demonstrative to compare imports of January 2011, 2010 and 2009.

In comparison to January 2010 and 2009, stainless steel imports in January 2011 grew 61.5% and 112,8% respectively.

The imports structure in January 2011, on December 2010, underwent several changes thanks to the increasing share of stainless steel longs and tubes.

The January 2011 imports structure is majorly shaped by stainless steel flats with a share of 58.5% (in December 2010 – 65.7%), longs – 16.7% (13.7%), seamless tubes – 9.7% (8.4%), welded tubes – 9.5% (7.3%), wire – 3.8% (2.8%) and primary billets and slabs – 1.8% (2.0%).
