Russian stainless steel imports in 2020

According to an estimate by SpetsStal Association, the volume of Russian stainless steel import in 2020, if compared with 2019, increased by 3.8% to 382.21 kt (000’ tons). 
Imports of CR flat-rolled products increased by 7.5%, HR flat-rolled products - by 7.8%, bars/rods products - by 8.7%, welded tubes – by 5.5% and slabs/ingots - by 33.8%.
Imports of seamless tubes decreased by 35.7% and wire – by 17.7%.

Expenses of Russian importers decreased by 6.1% to 912.76 Mill US dollars.

The following countries took a leadership in stainless steel supplies to Russia in 2020: China with a share of 39.8% out of the whole imports (in 2019 – 42.9%), India – 13.8% (11.4%), Indonesia – 7.8% (4.3%), Taiwan – 7.3% (9.5%) and South Korea – 5.6% (6.0%).
Out of the top 5 countries, China decreased stainless steel supplies to Russia by 3.7% to 152.37 kt, Taiwan – by 20.5% to 27.88 kt and South Korea – by 1.9% to 21.56 kt.
India increased stainless steel supplies to Russia by 26.1% to 52.90 kt and Indonesia – by 90.6% to 29.92 kt.
