IMPORTS

    According to an expert appraisal by SPETSSTAL Association, the capacity of imports of key STS products to Russia in 2009, if compared to 2008, decreased by 38.7% to 109.6 thousand tons, including imports of flats down by 44.6% to 66,5 thousand tons, longs down by 28.3% to 12.7 thousand tons, wire down by 42.9% to 1.8 thousand tons, seamless tubes down by 39.5% to 7.8 thousand tons, welded tubes down by 17.7% to 18.2 thousand tons, billets down by 16.9% to 2.45 thousand tons.

    If appraised by value, Russia STS imports in 2009 fell 33.4% to 388.57 million USD dollars.

    The major part of STS consumption still owes to flats, which share is 60.7%. Followed by welded tubes with a share of 16,7%, longs – 11.6%, seamless tubes – 7.2%, billets – 2.2% and wire 1.6%.

EXPORTS

    Over the recent years, STS exports from Russia are on the stable route of decline. In 2003 export volumes accounted for 21889 tons, in 2004 – 18551 tons, in 2005 – 13118 tons, in 2006 – 15593 tons, in 2007 – 14644 tons, in 2008 – 10788 tons.

    Russia STS exports in 2009, if compared to 2008, went down by 39.2% to 6563 tons, including exports of flats -37.7% to 2894 tons, longs –48.6% to 1642 tons, wire –36.9% to 101 tons, seamless tubes –23.0% to 1422 tons, billets and slabs –86.8% to 119 tons.
