In June stainless steel imports rose only 1.9%
According to an expert appraisal by Spetsstal association, imports of key stainless steel products in June, compared to May, rose 1.9% to 8,225 tons. Over the first half of 2009, compared to the same period of 2008, stainless steel imports declined 44.6% to a bit over 46 thousand tons.
The key reason to the low business activity on the Russian market for stainless steel is still in the low solvent demand from end users. Certain difficulties with getting bank credits force traders to cut purchases and lead to shrinkage in the stock trade.
A negative influence also comes from the January-raised customs duties, supposed to be expired by September, however unlikely to happen. Russian stainless steel makers insist on prolonging the duties till the end of this year.
