Imports increase vs exports decrease
Over the last nine months of 2007, if compared to 2006"s equal period, Russian imports of primary stainless steel products grew 5.6% to 121414 tons while exports slumped 6.8% to 11054 tons.

The March 2007 imposition of an anti-dumping duty on nickel-breaing steels from the EU along with the considerable price hike for these steels in the first half of 2007 made a negative effect on the imports as a whole. Over the first three quarters of 2007, the apparent flat imports decreased 7.8% to 72260 tons. According to experts" appraisal, the volume of flat imports is likely to go down 5-6% by the end of 2007 to the mark of ~ 100 thousand tons. Flat exports over the mentioned period grew 7.4% to 5800 tons.
Experts mark out a significant shift in the geography of imports.
