On October 16-17, 2007 Spetsstal Association held the International Business Forum «Stainless steel. Sochi 2007-2014» in Sochi, Russia’s southern city at the Black Sea.

More than 100 delegates including foreign guests took part in the event. The Business Forum received support of International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), Steel Business Briefing, Stainless Steel Focus, Steel Times International, MetalBuild Exhibition Project and a number of specialized mass media.

This year’s event was sponsored by VVPS-NN (General Sponsor), Special Steels and Alloys Co. (Official Sponsor) and Kamet Srl (Official sponsor).

The Forum attracted the attention of the representatives of ArcelorMittal, Nippon Steel, Posco, Hyundai Corporation, Ugitech, Metal One Corporation, Marubeni Itochu, SK Networks, Imeas, Daewoo International, and many others. The Russian audience was represented by some key players like Chelyabinsky Metallurgical Plant, RusSpetsStal, Moscow Tubing Plant Filit, Pervouralsky Novotrubny Works.

Mr. Staffan Malm, the Secretary General of ISSF, presented an interesting paper on «Sustainable stainless. A golden concept for Sochi 2014»: carefully chosen slides with lots of examples of stainless steel solutions and latest data on the global stainless steel market made his speech vivid and comprehensive. Ms. Catherine Houska, the Consultant to the Nickel Institute and IMOA, of TMR Consulting gave an impressive speech on “Stainless steel: Sublime Sustainable Design, Extraodinary Perfomance”, demonstrating inspiring examples of stainless steel application in design and architecture.

Other papers (more than twenty) were dedicated to price and output trends, new products and steel-making facilities, prospects for the market development, etc.

Mr. Sergey Shchukin, the Head of ArcelorMittal Moscow, covered the topic of ferritic stainless steel grades. Mr. Sergey Kovalev, the Director of Stainless Steel Department of Agis Stal, dedicated his presentation to his company’s expertise in cooperating with Chinese producers of stainless steel seamless tubes, flat and long products, which fairly attracted the audience’s heed. A joint presentation of two companies – Korona Inox and ArtMetall – was dedicated to decorative stainless steel and its use in outfitting public places.

Mr. Dave Endo, the Chief of Moscow Representation of Metal One Corporation (Japan) spoke on the advantages and opportunities of Japanese producers – Sumitomo and Nippon Steel.

Mr. Lee Jin Ho, the Assistant Manager of South Korean company POSCO uncovered the company’s strategy on the Russian market.

Spetsstal Association has made a decision to hold the Business Forum in Sochi every year to highlight the latest achievements and ongoing projects in the city’s renovations.
