Russian stainless steel consumption in Q1-Q3 2018

According to the expert assessment of Spetsstal Association, the volume of consumption of the main types of stainless steel products in Russia in Q1-Q3 2018, compared to the same period of 2017, increased by 1.7% and amounted to 364.43 kt (000’ tons). 

Consumption of stainless steel CR flats increased by 3.2% to 171.59 kt, long products – by 3.3% to 50.73 kt, seamless tubes – by 21.0% to 23.51 kt and slabs/ingots – 67.5% to 4.26 kt.

Consumption of HR flats decreased by 1.3% to 64.65 kt, welded tubes – by 0.2% to 34.16 kt, tubular billets – by 31.9% to 9.86 kt and wire – by 13.7% to 5.65 kt.

According to Spetsstal Association the share of foreign products in total stainless steel consumption in Russia was 76.0%, and domestic – 24.0% (in Q1-Q3 2017 – 75.5% and 24.5% respectively).

In Q1-Q3 2018, the most dependent (from foreign products) sectors of stainless steel consumption in Russia were: flat cold rolled products, where the share of imported products was 98.6%, wire – 91.1%, flat hot rolled products – 77.8%, slabs/ingots – 67.5%, seamless tubes – 56.6% and welded tubes – 50.3%.

The share of foreign products in the consumption of long products – 32.7% and tubular billets – 23.8%.
