Stainless steel consumption in Russia increased by 23.7%

According to Spetsstal Association, the volume of stainless steel consumption in Russia in Q1-Q3 2017, compared to the same period of 2016, increase by 23.7% to 360.44 thousand tons: the volume of domestic output increased by 3.3% to 89.59 thousand tons, exports - by 16.8% to 4.07 thousand tons and imports - by 32.1% to 274.92 thousand tons.
The share of stainless steel import was 76.3% (Q1-Q3 2016 – 71.4%).
Consumption of stainless steel flats rose by 26.2% to 231.94 thousand tons, longs – by 17.0% to 63.88 thousand tons, welded tubes – by 17.0% to 31.18 thousand tons, seamless tubes – by 33.3% to 24.35 thousand tons, wire – by 17.7% to 6.68 thousand tons and slabs/ingots - by 1.1% to 2.40 thousand tons.

The Russian stainless steel market is actively developing. The main increase in consumption is due to an increase in imports, which in 2017 will exceed 365 thousand tons, while the total costs of Russian importers will exceed USD 1 billion.
