Russian Stainless Steel Imports increased by 32.0% in Q1-Q3 2017

According to the expert assessment of Spetsstal Association, in Q1-Q3 2017, if compared to the same period of 2016, Russian imports of major stainless steel products increased by 32.0% to 278,894 tons.

The structure of Russian stainless steel import was made up of: flats with a share of 76.7% out of the overall stainless steel imports (in Q1-Q3 2016 – 77.8%), hot & cold bar products – 8.1% (9.1%), welded tubes – 5.9% (5.1%), seamless tubes – 5.2% (3.4%), wire – 2.2% (2.4%), fittings/flanges – 1.4% (1.5%) and slabs/ingots – 0.7% (0.7%).

Imports of flat products increased by 30.0% to 213,789 tons, hot & cold bar products - by 17.0% to 22,459 tons, welded tubes – by 50.5% to 16,332 tons, seamless tubes – by 104.4% to 14,501 tons, wire – by 19.0% to 6,074 tons, fitting/flanges - by 21.6% to 3,914 tons and slabs/ingots – by 32.5% to 1,825 tons.

According to Spetsstal's appraisal, the following countries took a leadership in stainless steel supplies to Russia in Q1-Q3 2017: China with a share of 32.3% out of the whole imports (in Q1-Q3 2016 – 24.1%), Taiwan – 16.2% (18.7%), India – 9.9% (10.3%), Spain – 6.6% (4.5%) and South Africa – 5.7% (9.7%).

Out of the top 5 countries, increased their stainless steel exports to Russia: China – by 117.4% to 89,950 tons, Taiwan – by 35.4% to 45,161 tons, India – by 49.2% to 27,642 tons and Spain – by 129.3% to 18,434 tons.
South Africa – decreased stainless steel exports to Russia by 5.3% to 15,771 tons.
