Stainless steel imports are high while exports are even higher
According to SpetsStal, stainless steel imports to Russia in June 2013, compared with the previous month's figures, rose 4.5% to 18,727 tons. Imports of flats increased 8.1%, longs – 3.8%, welded tubes – 20.5%. Imports of wire decreased 32.3%, seamless tubes – 16.1% and slabs/ingots – 78.5%.
In 1H 2013, compared with the equal period of 2012, stainless steel imports to Russia rose 8.8% to 115,741 tons. A major growth was due to increasing imports of stainless steel flat-rolled products by 15.6%, welded tubes – 8.1% and slabs/ingots – 47.5%. However, imports of long products decreased 8.1%, wire – 30.6% and seamless tubes – 21.7%.
It is worth reminding that over the period from January to June 2013, if compared with the same period of 2012, Russia's stainless steel exports grew 291.3% to 14,060 tons.
