Stainless steel imports to Russia on the rise

From January to August 2008, if compared to the same period of 2007, imports of key stainless steel products grew 9.6% to 117 thousand tons.

\r\n

\r\n

The augmentation was due to a rise of flat-rolled imports by over 26%. Other stainless steel products experienced a fall 5.3% to 29%.

\r\n

\r\n

In particular, imports of long stainless steel decreased 17.1%, seamless tubes – 5.3%, welded tubes – 5.7% and wire – 29.4%.

\r\n

\r\n

The majority of experts adhere to the opinion, that the decrease of imports of the above-mentioned products was connected with a recent increase of local production of the respected stainless steel products.

\r\n

\r\n

Despite the fall in the long steel sector, the share of stainless steel imports in the consumption structure still remain at high.

\r\n

\r\n

The issues of stainless steel imports and consumption in Russia will be scrupulously discussed at the forthcoming International Conference ‘The Russian Stainless Steel Consumer 2008’ to take place on 29 October 2008 at the Radisson SAS Slavyanskaya Hotel Moscow.

\r\n

\r\n

Among the distinguished conference speakers, participants will have the opportunity to hear the presentations from Russian stainless steel end-users.

\r\n

\r\n

Another key topic for the conference will be the ongoing investigation of increased imports of stainless steel cutlery that has been initiated on 31st of March 2008.
