Russia\'s stainless steel output grows

The on-going execution of the state-initiated projects in Russia’s machinery construction sector makes a positive effect on the growth of the local stainless steel production.

\r\n

As a result for the first half of 2008, Russia’s stainless steel output rose 13.9% to 81 thousand tons including flats – 34.1 thousand tons, longs – 31.3 thousand tons, seamless tubes – 5.8 thousand tons, welded tubes – 3.7 thousand tons and forged pieces – 1.7 thousand tons.

\r\n

The lion’s share goes to Chelyabinsky MK (Mechel) – 32.1%, followed by Red October Plant – 16.8%, Izhstal – 12.6% and Zlatoust Steel Works – 10.2%.

\r\n

Despite the visible growth of the local output, over 54% of the total stainless steel consumption in Russia  is satisfied by imports.

\r\n

For a reference, in the first half of 2008, apparent imports of basic stainless steel products equated to over 82.3 thousand tons.

\r\n

Which route will the Russian stainless steel market is likely to take? What are main concerns of the Russian end-user? Who is who on the world’s and Russian suppliers market? What factors are to influence inner prices for stainless steel? What are new types of stainless steel for Russia?

\r\n

These and many other issues with the introduction of new producers and suppliers will be discussed at the forthcoming International Conference ‘Russian Stainless Steel Consumer 2008’
to be held on 29 October 2008 in Tchaikovsky Conference Hall of the Radisson SAS Slavyanskaya Hotel Moscow.

\r\n

You are heartily invited to take part in the forthcoming event.
